A draw - a shot that moves right to left for a right-handed golfer - travels further than a fade, looks impressive, and can be a genuine advantage on certain holes. Understanding how to produce it consistently starts with the physics.

The Physics of a Draw

A draw is produced by a club path that moves right of the target (in-to-out) and a clubface that is closed relative to that path but open relative to the target line. This creates right-to-left sidespin that curves the ball.

Adjust Your Setup

Close your stance slightly - drop your right foot back from the target line - while keeping the clubface aimed at your target. This naturally encourages an in-to-out swing path.

Strengthen Your Grip

A slightly stronger grip - rotating both hands clockwise - makes it easier to close the face through impact. This is a common and effective adjustment for chronic slicers.

Avoid Overdoing It

A draw that becomes too strong turns into a hook, which is generally worse than a fade. Work on producing a gentle right-to-left curve rather than a big sweeping draw.
